Oh, a big issue in the church today is the idea of trying to mix biblical truth with psychological ideas. And this is something that is dividing the church in so many ways. But the fact is that secular psychology is just one of thousands of ideas that have been invented by the world that are brought in to compete with the Bible, to compete with Scripture.
We believe with all of our heart in the sufficiency of Scripture. So you might ask, what's the difference between biblical counseling and psychological counseling? Well, there's two big differences.
The first one is biblical counseling believes in the total sufficiency of Scripture and all the doctrines of grace and all the means of grace to counsel every issue. Psychological counseling doesn't believe in those things and in fact asserts itself as having supposed truths that are outside of Scripture. Anybody who says I have a truth that's outside of Scripture is by definition a false teacher.
But the second way they're very different, and listen carefully, biblical counseling is not the answer to the problem. It is a means by which God gives you the answers to the problem through Scripture. Psychological counseling sees itself as the answer, that the answer is to go to counseling. And that's why you have people hurting in this world going to counseling for three, four, and five years, because it never fixes them. Only Christ and the gospel can fix them.
