There's actually a debate that happens. I've never been part of it, but I've heard that it happens. And whether or not a human being is made of two parts or three parts. Are we body and soul slash spirit or are we body, soul, and spirit?
And there are arguments for both. Scripture certainly uses soul and spirit, sometimes interchangeably and sometimes in slightly different ways. And so it may depend on semantics, on how you define those two terms. Probably a better way to think of that concept, though, is that the full-orbed creation known as mankind, we are made in God's image as physical beings and as spiritual beings. And the ultimate result is that because of sin, those two parts are going to be separated. Our physical being will be separated from our spiritual being, and that's not natural.
But because of Christ and the cross at the resurrection, those two parts of ourselves will be together, physical, spiritual, perfectly aligned with God's will for all eternity. So maybe that's a good way to think about that idea.
