Sometimes people ask the question, why did Jesus die the death of crucifixion? Why wasn't he born 2,000 years later and died in an electric chair or some other means?
Well, the easiest way to answer that, first of all, is to look to the sovereignty of God. That was the moment in time that God sovereignly chose for Jesus to enter time and space, the incarnation of Christ, the full humanity of Christ, fully human, fully God. But beyond that, entering into that period in time allowed for the method of death that was actually predicted in Scripture. Long before crucifixion was even invented, Psalm 22 speaks of crucifixion in very detailed terms. And so this gives us confidence that the death of Christ was planned before the foundation of the world. Isaiah 53 speaks of Jesus being pierced. Zechariah chapter 12 speaks of someday Israel looking on the one whom they pierced, written hundreds of years before the coming of Christ. So the simple answer, the cross was ordained, but it was also the means by which God fulfilled prophecy.
